CT Coronary Angiography
Los Angeles

A CT coronary angiography in Los Angeles is a type of cardiac CT scan that allows Dr. Jamshid Maddahi to see your coronary arteries without surgery. Your coronary arteries provide the main supply of blood to your heart. Through this non-invasive test, Dr. Maddahi can see if there is any build-up of plaque or disrupted vessels or check prior surgeries. We can check for aneurysms, blood clots, and congenital defects in the heart.

Why Is It Done

CT coronary angiography is a cardiac CT scan that can diagnose numerous underlying conditions related to the coronary arteries that supply blood to your heart.

What Can a CT Coronary Angiography Diagnose?

The following are some of the conditions Dr. Maddahi can diagnose with a CT coronary angiography:

  • Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): This heart disease occurs when the coronary arteries become narrowed or blocked due to the build-up of plaque, leading to chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or heart attacks.
  • Aneurysms: An aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge in an artery that can rupture and cause internal bleeding. If an aneurysm ruptures, it’s a potentially life-threatening condition, we can catch this with a CT coronary angiography in Los Angeles.
  • Blood Clots: A blood clot is a mass of blood cells and proteins that can form in an artery or vein, leading to a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.
  • Congenital Defects: These are abnormalities of the heart or arteries present at birth, and they can range from mild to severe and even potentially life-threatening.

What to Expect

Contact our office for instructions to prepare for your CT coronary angiography tailored just for you. We ask that you inform our office of any medications (prescription or over-the-counter) you are taking. We will also want to be advised of any medical devices or implants you may use. Dr. Maddahi will advise on continuing medications, special precautions for devices, and if fasting is recommended.

A dye is injected through an IV. You may experience a warm flush when the dye is injected or feel the need to urinate. These sensations will pass quickly. You will be on a narrow table and passed under the scanner. It is necessary to remain still during the CT coronary angiography in Los Angeles, as movement will cause your images to blur.

Let us know if you feel there is any problem with remaining still. Los Angeles cardiology expert Dr. Maddahi will advise you of ways we will work to make your cardiac CT scan easier. Your images are recorded and analyzed by Dr. Maddahi. If any abnormalities are found, Dr. Maddahi will prepare a plan to restore your heart’s health.
