Preventive Cardiac Care

If you have a family history of cardiac problems, such as a parent or even a grandparent with a history of heart disease, it is especially important that you visit our office. Early detection of heart trouble is your best protection against heart disease.

A family history of heart disease does not mean that you have to follow in the “health” footsteps of your relatives. Early testing and lifestyle modification can go a long way to prevent the development of cardiovascular problems.

Persons with a family history of heart disease should visit Dr. Maddahi as early as age 30-35 to maximize the long term health benefits of preventive cardiac care.

Cutting Edge Technology to Protect Your Health

Great healthcare begins with exceptional science. Using these tests, Dr. Maddahi can quickly learn exactly what is going on with your body, and how to help you keep it in the best of health.

No one will need all of these tests, but each is available and can be used by Los Angeles cardiology expert Dr. Maddahi as needed to get to the bottom of any cardiovascular problem.

Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound

Ultrasound technology is a painless non-invasive technique of determining the source of cardiac problems with the aorta. Your aorta is the main artery supplying blood from the heart out to the rest of the body.

CT Coronary Angiography

CT technology allows Dr. Maddahi to see your arteries and check for blockage, damage or to examine existing repairs to your heart without invasive measures.

Genetic Testing

Genetic testing is unique to our practice. This technology is so new we are currently the only cardiology practice that can offer this highly beneficial service.

Blood Testing

The blood contains many of the answers needed to diagnose and treat medical problems. Testing your blood for cholesterol is one of the many tests that can be used to predict and manage heart disease. Testing blood for indicators that other systems of the body are affecting your heart is an effective tool to identify and treat conditions for the whole body health.

Echocardiography

This painless, non- invasive test uses sound waves to create a picture of the heart.

Vascular Ultrasound

A vascular ultrasound is performed to allow the doctor to see the flow and direction of the blood as it circulates through the body. Through this exam, Dr. Maddahi can check for clots blocking the flow of blood and vessels that have narrowed, as well as tumors or congenital malformations in the cardiovascular system.

Venus Duplex Ultrasound

An excellent tool for the discovery of blood clots in the legs, the Venus duplex ultrasound allows Dr. Maddahi to locate clots early preventing life-threatening embolisms.

Tilt-Table Examination

Persons who have unexplained episodes of fainting would have this test, which is performed to examine the cardiovascular system’s response to a change in position. Your blood pressure, heart rate and rhythms are monitored as your position changes from lying flat to standing.

Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography TEE

This non-invasive test uses sound wave technology to create moving pictures of the heart and its blood vessels. Through this test, Dr. Maddahi can learn about the size and shape of your heart, and see the operation of its valves and chambers.

Stress Testing: Non-Invasive, Life-Saving

An important indication of the health of your heart is how well your heart performs when under stress or exercise. These tests are painless, non-invasive and are used to diagnose problems with your heart, which may only appear during stress or cardiovascular exercise.

Exercise Nuclear Perfusion Imaging

One of the primary reasons for a heart attack is blocked coronary arteries. This test works by injecting a radioactive tracer into the vein, once during exercise and again while at rest.

The tracer allows Dr. Maddahi to see the areas of the heart that are receiving blood and where there may be a blockage.

Pharmacologic Exercise Nuclear

This test is performed by using a drug that simulates the activity of the heart during exercise. A drug is injected that causes the blood vessels in the heart to dilate as they would dilate during an activity such as exercising. This allows the cardiologist to see how the vessels react to stress. A radioactive tracer is used to gain an image of the heart while stressed, then again while at rest.

Perfusion Imaging (Adenosine)

Adenosine is the name of the drug used to dilate the blood vessels simulating activity. Using an EKG, the electrical activity of the heart is monitored. During this exam, your oxygen, heart rhythm, and blood pressure is also monitored.

Treadmill Exercise /Stress Testing

This exam is performed to test the functional capacity of your heart. The length of time and degree of incline on the treadmill is a good indicator of how well your heart is performing when not at rest.
